Digital Complete Dentures

Additional Information:
The success of a complete denture prosthesis depends on a myriad of factors and clinical conditions. Variables and techniques can compromise the clinical results and patient satisfaction when treating an edentulous patient. Therefore, understanding the fundamentals of complete dentures and the appropriate clinical procedures can lead to a successful outcome. In addition, dentistry has fully embraced the digital age, and digital technology’s integration into one of the oldest treatments in dentistry is proof that it is here to stay. CAD/CAM complete dentures were introduced following the success of CAD/CAM in implant and fixed prosthodontics. CAD/CAM complete dentures have seen exponential growth in the dental market, with the number of commercially available CAD/CAM denture systems growing every year. Interest in CAD/CAM has also been affected by a reduction in the number of dental laboratory technicians with experience and expertise with traditional fabrication processes. The objectives of this course are to review the analog and digital workflows of complete dentures and address the clinical procedures that can lead to a successful outcome.

The Role of Dentistry in Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM)

Additional Information:
Sleep and especially the lack of it, reveals itself in many aspects of our life and health. Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) seeks to provide a dental solution for this potentially serious and complex health problem. DSM is a relatively young but growing field. We have long known the importance of oral health to our overall health and the oral and cardiovascular connection is now well established. Seldom do dentists and physicians have direct cooperation, however, in patient care. Qualified dentists and oral appliances for the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) are now accepted as a part of the sleep “team” and participate and collaborate with physicians in patient care. This is intended to be an “introduction” to the concepts of and role of dentists in DSM.

Dental Ceramics:A Clinical Perspective on Material Selection

Additional Information:
Today, restorative dentists are overwhelmed with the number of different restorative dental ceramic materials available, which makes material selection complicated. The dental clinician often faces questions and decisions when choosing the appropriate type of ceramic material in different clinical situations. Moreover, the longevity and success of ceramic restorations are influenced by proper material selection and restoration design by the dentist. While metal-ceramic restorations are still a major treatment modality, replacing metal-ceramic systems with all-ceramic systems is possible. This presentation will help simplify the confusion in dental ceramic material selection. Additionally, a systematic solution and a decision-making guide will be provided, helping dentists choose the best material in different clinical cases. A brief overview of the related dental material science will be presented, and the microstructure, properties and clinical applications of each ceramic material will be discussed in different clinical scenarios.

Vital Pulp Therapy

Additional Information:
Vital pulp therapy, such as direct pulp capping, is a conservative restorative treatment modality with a goal of preserving vitality of the otherwise diseased pulp tissue. Biologically, vital pulp therapy allows for reparative dentin regeneration by dental pulp stem cells, formation of which serves as a “biological seal” to protect the underlying pulp tissue. Calcium hydroxide has been used more than 80 years for this purpose in restorative dentistry; however, its clinical utilization has been less appreciated due to unpredictable outcomes that often resulted in a complete removal of the pulp tissue via root canal therapy. On the other hand, recent introduction of hydraulic calcium silicate cements (HCSCs), derivatives of prototype mineral trioxide aggregates (MTAs), confers reliable and predictable outcomes that increasingly gained its popularity and enabled vital pulp therapy as a viable conservative treatment option. In this course, we will discuss about the current status of vital pulp therapy and present some of our research findings related to reparative dentin regeneration at the molecular, preclinical, and clinical levels.

Practicing Implant Dentistry in the 21st Century

Additional Information:
Description This presentation will go over several treatment methods for implant prosthetic patients. When a patient meets the dentist for the first time, the patient’s initial impression is extremely vital to acceptance. This presentation will review an elementary and detailed discussion with a new patient while understanding the patient’s needs. Patients do not necessarily understand informed consent; therefore, both auxiliaries and dentists should ask patients to verbalize what the practitioner explained to them. Implant hygiene will be discussed — both what to do immediately following the dentist’s procedures and at home. This course will also discuss procedures such as direct pickup of the implant overdenture prosthesis.
